Students Run LA

The McCourt Foundation is proud to partner with SRLA for our 34th year.  The mission of Students Run LA is to challenge underserved secondary students to experience the benefits of goal-setting, character development, adult mentoring and improved health by providing them with a truly life-changing experience: The training for and completion of the Los Angeles Marathon.  Over 3200 students are impacted each year and 185 schools and community programs served.

"With more than 63,000 students participating in SRLA, there is no question that this program is making a profound impact on the lives of the students and our community."

26th Mile

The 26th Mile effort is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s “Beyond the Bell” Youth Development Program, teaching students in 150 area schools the importance of combining healthy nutritional choices with physical activity. The McCourt Foundation partners with Beyond the Bell to create a training guide for 25,000 students on the importance of healthy eating habits and exercise.

The students are challenged to run 25 miles in short increments leading up to the 26th Mile.  Students in grades K-5 are invited to run their final mile – the 26th Mile – at Dodger Stadium.  Together with Beyond the Bell, TMF helps create this unique experience for more than 6,000 students and their families and provide medals, t-shirts and acknowledgement of their tremendous efforts which kicks off the Los Angeles Marathon week of events. (or: on the weekend before the Los Angeles Marathon each year).
