LA Road Runners (LARR) trains and supports those who wish to participate in the Los Angeles Marathon, Santa Monica Classic, Rose Bowl Half Marathon and other races through training programs, expert coaching, social events, information sharing, and coaching tips. You can sign up for the LARR newsletter to get updates and tips in your inbox.

Below you'll find downloadable training plans for all our events no matter your level.

Santa Monica Classic

Level 1: Couch to 5K

9 Weeks: July 11 - September 11


Perfect for the first timer or if it's been a minute since you've run a 5K. Open to walkers, joggers, runners or anywhere in between!

Level 2

6 Weeks: August 1 - September 11


For the older experienced athlete or younger beginner. Only 10% of the work is higher intensity, the rest easier to build more “endurance.” Includes a bit more volume.

Level 3

6 Weeks: August 1 - September 11


For the person who wants to be a bit faster, but does not want to risk injury. The plan includes a little faster work to speed you up with 15% intensity and more volume. The 85% of work is designed to build “endurance.”

Level 4

6 Weeks: August 1 - September 11


For the fairly strong strong athlete but not seriously competitive, or a strong newbie testing the waters of a fast race. 20% intensity work and more volume.

Level 5

6 Weeks: August 1 - September 11


You want to be competitive. You are not injury prone and you’re ready to go for it. Still early for training, but ready to tackle the first race of the season. Not the most competitive schedule, but an early season competitive schedule. 25% intensity work and the most volume.
